Pine Lodge Short Stay School Outstanding Again!

Staff from Pine Lodge Short Stay School

A HUGE Congratulations  to the Pine Lodge Short Stay School which has been named ‘outstanding’ for the third time running by Ofsted.

The finding was reached following a recent inspection of Pine Lodge short stay school in Chester. Pine Lodge houses both an on-site educational unit and a regional adolescent psychiatric unit, with services provided by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP).

Students who attend the on-site schooling provision at Pine Lodge are provided a tailored package of planned therapeutic treatment, to support them to return to their everyday life as quickly and smoothly as possible.

The inspection team commented, “The leadership team has strengthened the areas for improvement identified at the last inspection and maintained the excellent quality of education.”

“Teachers’ flexibility ensures that the impact on pupils’ academic progress, as a result of changes in their emotional well-being, for example, is minimised.

“This action leads often to a change from the pupil being motivated by staff to the pupil being self-motivated. As a result, pupils’ resilience is strengthened in readiness for their next steps.”

Sheena Cumiskey, CWP Chief Executive, says, “We are delighted with the latest inspection results which demonstrate the holistic service we provide to young people accessing in-patient services who are often at an important point in their education. Being able to support them at this critical time enables them to go on to be the best they can be.”

Siân Thomas, executive headteacher, says, “The sustained success of this education provision is a testimony to the dedication and commitment of the whole staff team who, led by the head of centre Liza Ashworth, support students through huge challenge to ensure positive futures.

“In addition to the direct work with students, the team promote inclusion with their partners, reducing stigma and raising mental health and well-being awareness.”
