Malala Day

On Friday July 12th, Malala Yousafzai, celebrated her birthday by giving a speech at the UN assembly in New York highlighting the need for peace and education for all girls and women around the world.  What made this speech more powerful, was that this was her 16th birthday and only 9 months previously she had been shot in the head by the Taliban for daring to go to school.

Young people from Pine Lodge listened to, and were impressed by Malala Yousafzai’s speech at the UN assembly.  They then held a discussion and signed the petition calling on world leaders to act.

Malala’s speech shows how powerful a voice young people have.  In CAMHS we actively encourage this participation.

In a similar vein, on Thursday July 18th some of our young people, (representing Cheshire East, Wirral and inpatient services), spoke to the chief executive, involvement reps, our chairman and other executives of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and shared their thoughts about the important role young people play in shaping our services.
