Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) has four learning disability CAMHS teams covering Cheshire and Wirral.  The team that works with you is dependent upon the location of your GP.

Aims of Learning Disability CAMHS teams

Each team aims to provide a service that:

  • works in partnership with families/ carers

  • adopts a multi-agency approach (see ‘who do we work with’)

  • has a flexible, community based, way of working

  • is focused on the needs of the child/ young person

  • offers support based on the GOALS identified by the family

 Who do we work with?

  • child / young person

  • families / carers

  • school staff

  • social workers/ social care staff

  • health professionals

  • voluntary and charity based agencies


Referral criteria

  • children under 5 years with global developmental delay and receiving support from the Child Development Service or paediatrician

  • children and young people with severe learning disabilities with additional behaviour which can be challenging and or significant mental health problems

  • children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities

  • children and young people with moderate learning disabilities and significant mental health difficulties with additional complexity (usually via consultation)
