Eating too little makes you gain weight!

Did you know your body is pre-programmed to be a certain weight?

When we crash diet and lose weight quickly our body adjusts how it uses energy to try to keep our weight the same.

This is the science behind the following diet facts;

  • in the long run, 30- 60% of dieters gain more weight than non-dieters.
  • you might loose weight during a  diet… but chances are you might gain more weight when you go back to eating normally.
  • as a way of keeping a healthy weight, dieting can be worse than useless!
  • girls who go on diets are five times more likely to develop an eating disorder than those who do not diet at all.

Starting on what can seem like a harmless diet can also put you at risk of developing a very serious and dangerous eating disorder.

Dangerous and frankly unglamourous side effects of eating disorders can include;

  • losing your hair,
  • hair growing all over your body,
  • slowed heart rate,
  • weak nails,
  • poor skin
  • digestive problems….
  • not to mention mood swings, tiredness and weak bones.

Evidence shows the best way to maintain a healthy weight is to enjoy a wide range of foods regularly and exercise a few times a week.

Top tips for healthy happy body image;

  • eat lots of different foods when you are hungry – and stop when you are full.
  • enjoy food but don’t use eating as a way to feel happy.
  • when you feel rubbish about yourself it can feel tempting to try to change your outside appearance but this won’t help you to feel better on the inside.
  • find something active you enjoy and do it a few times a week.

We are supposed to be different shapes and sizes – and this is what makes the world an interesting place to be.  Accept the bits you cannot change and love the best bits of you – I guarantee there are some !
