Ancora House is a specialist hospital run by Cheshire and Wirral Partership NHS Foundation Trust for young people who are having difficulties with their thoughts. Feelings or behaviour and need a short stay in hospital to help them get better.

Our staff teams consist of psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, and support workers, participation worker, clinical psychologists, family therapists and occupational therapists.

There are 26 beds across the two wards.

Coral Ward is the acute assessment and brief intervention ward

Indigo Ward offers an intensive planned treatment package

Our specialist inpatient unit was rated as “Good” by the Care Quality Commission, 2015 (CQC) when the service was based at the Young People’s Centre in Chester.

 

 

Referrals

The assessment and outreach team are responsible for all admissions to Ancora House

covering the Cheshire and Merseyside region. We welcome referrals from our Tier 3 CAMHS teams, 16-19 services, adult home crisis treatment and psychiatric liaison teams.  In addition we also accept referrals from other Tier 4 inpatient services.

Outpatient Services

 

CHEDS

CHEDS stands for Cheshire and Merseyside Eating Disorder Service.  Although CHEDS is an outpatient service, they work closely with our inpatient services and if you are supported by CHEDS you may be offered an inpatient (normally Indigo Ward) as part of your care plan if this is helpful to you.

Home Based Treatment Team

The Team provides highly specialised home and community interventions across Cheshire and Merseyside.  The team works with young people between the ages of 13-19 who have severe, complex and/or ongoing mental health problems that are having a significant impact on the day to day life of themselves and their family; and have not responded to other types of support.

Ancora House Short Stay School

The short stay school has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted  for the third time running and is an exceptional place, it supports all young people to continue with their education  whilst in hospital and work towards getting young people back to their own schools, colleges or employment.

 

 

The school works very closely with the young persons school/college and develops an educational plan for each young person whilst they are in Ancora House.  Transition workers also support the young people to go back to school and college. You can even sit exams here in the short stay school.

 

 

About Ancora House

Ancora House opened in September 2016 and is a brand new purpose built hospital designed  by the young people. It brings together the two old wards of Maple and Pine Lodge.

Each bedroom has its own en suite facilities and as well as internal courtyard areas we also have our own garden with horticultural area, small animal garden, green house and outdoor covered seating area.

Inside the building we have Ancora House School which  boosts 6 classrooms including a science lab and all rooms are equipped to A-level standard.

We also have our own gym, multifaith space called ‘The Sanctuary’ and  a large chill out space called The Den which  hosts a projector, multi changing lights and soft seating.

Ancora House is on the Countess of Chester Health Park near Bowmere Hospital and there is plenty of free parking and disabled bays outside the entrance. There is also covered bike parking. The hospital is near to the Country Park for walks and also Chester town centre and Chester Zoo.

There are numerous buses which stop outside the health park and the nearest train station is Bache which is a short walk away.
